Day five.

(A doe, a deer, a female deer...

Yes. Evil does in fact come in small packages.)

This was our second day at Mt. Rainier, in the Paradise hiking area.

This is also the only picture of a deer I have ever taken :) I definitely appreciate the zoom on my new camera now!

(This post = Christmas tree shaped!)

Keith, Tom, his girlfriend Shelby, and myself all went camping this weekend!

We only stayed for one night, but we had fun on Sunday with a 4-5 hour innertube float...

Today and tomorrow's pictures were both taken with a Fujifilm waterproof, disposable 3.5mm camera. The place we went camping is the same place where I broke my Olympus.

My first semi-serious attempt at taking a picture of the moon. I like that you can see Venus in there too :) This was what I saw when I walked out of my front door to go to work at 5:45am this morning.

I wish I had left earlier, though! After I got out of my neighborhood, everywhere else was all misty and foggy, and the sun was coming up. So everything was pastel pink, yellow, lavender, etc. The trees were a dark purple and didn't even look real. It was so pretty :) Definitely should have gotten a shot of that instead!

Isn't he beautiful? :)

I went to the zoo today with my Animal Field Behavior class... From now on, I am always going to zoos as early as they open. Not only are there less people (and less knee-biters), but the animals are actually up doing things. I've always been to the zoo from like 12-2 and the animals are always sleeping.

The male lion was pacing his territory and roaring. He came up and rubbed against the glass a few times. My teacher is also a zookeeper for the Woodland Park Zoo, and she told us that they think the female may be pregnant. But they don't know for sure yet.

I have more pictures from the zoo... I'm going to post them in Facebook only for now, since I talk to all of you there anyway :) Expect to see those pictures in a few days.

Keith and I went on a 2 mile round-trip hike to Lake Evan and Boardman's Lake today. The hike was really easy, and we got to explore a bunch of hike-in campsites at the end by Boardman's Lake. And see snow in June, since we were way up in the mountains.

I got some pretty cool pictures, but I'm in love with this one. The forest we were in was a second or old growth (probably second) forest and it was fascinating to see all of the different signs of old growth forests. Snags (this picture) are one of those signs. And the trees were HUGE! The hike wasn't too impressive, but the trees were just amazing.

If you want to see some more pictures from our hike, check out my hiking set on Flickr.

This isn't as sharp as I would have liked - there was a breeze and it wouldn't hold still.

But... I think I'm starting to understand how to make a bokeh effect with my camera! :)

I didn't actually take a picture today, so I'm recycling one that I didn't use from last month.

Keith and I went to Lake Goodwin today and finally got to relax.

We've both been working our butts off so it was nice to just lay around in the sun and do absolutely nothing. We were so tired from the sun that when we got home that after we had mango-banana-strawberry smoothies, we slept for an hour before I went to work :)

(We saw the Worlds Cutest Puppy today as well, but it was such a little ball of energy that I didn't even attempt to get a picture of him. I want to steal that puppy!)

Missy and I went on a walk around Jennings Park today. She and I have both been really cooped up lately. No one really takes her on walks any more and all she does is lie around the house and sleep. I just needed a break from homework :)

I really like composition of this shot - the way that the stairs go down to the path, the trees, and in the distance you can see the fountain.

It was such a nice night that Keith and I decided to go to the Everett marina and walk around. :)

A typical western Washington day.

This picture is in color, by the way (despite what the tag says). Look at the bottom right-hand corner if you don't believe me.

I decided today that for the next week I wanted to have a theme to my pictures. I just wasn't sure what. So, always the procrastinator, I left it for later. Around noon I was thinking about how nice and warm it was and how nice it would be to sit outside and study.

I realized while I was out there that my theme would be "Simple Pleasures." I'm really easily pleased by a perfect, hot cup of coffee, a good song, cuddling, or socks straight out of the dryer. What better way to keep ideas going than to take pictures of all the little things that make me happy?

Today's topic: Sunshine and blue skies. :)
